What Is Your Yin?
In my darkest moments, I discovered the strength in vulnerability, a trait often viewed as inherently feminine. It is abundantly clear that men feel deeply, and we rarely have an opportunity to show emotional pain. This book will inspire you to embrace the pain of your story and press into your own growth potential. I detail what this looked like for me – having lent myself to the process of vulnerability, communicating how I feel, and ultimately becoming a better leader through my willingness to seek help when I needed it.
The heart of this book lies in the unyielding strife that made me examine my values prior to my mother’s death. The birthplace of this book came to me as I was forced to reconcile that I might never be “all the way better”. As men we can overcome life’s hardships by using the tools that I learned from my mother that are captured within these pages.
Therein, I felt called to write a new equation for living: C squared, times six, equals question mark

The “C”, in this equation, stands for both “cancer” and “COVID-19”. “Squared”, refers to the fact that my mother and I both fell ill at the same time. It has a double significance in that it was my mother’s second battle with multiple myeloma—a disease that gnawed at her bones and tested the limits of her spirit. This exponent, multiplied by six, symbolizes the final six months of my mother’s life that made a lasting impact on me. The answer to the equation leads to the underlying question, “?”, throughout this book: What Is Your Yin?
